Introduction to our organization:

In order to reduce the number of cats and kittens brought into the animal shelters in Antioch, Martinez, and Pinole, a non-profit low-cost spay and neuter organization has been formed. Modeled after the very successful Fix Our Ferals program (www.fixourferals.org), SNIP evolved from a collaboration formed in 2006 between five animal welfare organizations and Contra Costa County Animal Services Department (CCCASD) To date, over 1,300 cats have been admitted to SNIP clinics.

SNIP veterinary director is Dr. Michael Barlia, (). He works closely with Dr. Richard Bachman, Director of Veterinary Medicine,CCCASD ().

Thanks to the generous donation of the use of their facility, the clinics will again be held at Contra Costa County Animal Services Department Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic in Martinez.

Results of November 6, 2012 Clinic :

We admitted 71 females and 38 males for a total of 109 cats! Three females were already spayed and one male was already neutered, however several of the females were in heat. This means the impact of spaying and neutering the 105 other cats is significant to the feral/freeroaming feline population.

2012 Clinic Dates:

February 12th
July 1st
September 16th
November 4th

It costs approximately $30 per cat to spay/neuter, administer rabies, FVRCP immunizations, and treat fleas, ear mites and other basic medical conditions. Some personal donations have been made by volunteers.  We are seeking donations, which are tax deductible (tax id 83-0466468) Donations may be mailed to SNIP, P.O. Box 4746, Antioch CA 94531.

Volunteers: We are looking for a volunteer in West Contra Costa County who can act as a trap depot. The easy responsibilities include making arrangements for trap pick-up, obtaining a deposit, and providing written instructions. We have found there are many people who are interested in our clinics but do not have access to traps. Funds to purchase additional traps are always needed.
